LEON LAI
Leon Lai is a Hong Kong born Violist who obtained his Master of Performance in the Royal College of Music-Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts programme in 2025 under Dr. Tan Wee Hsin. He has also previously studied under Bryony Gibson Cornish, Eivind Ringstad, Rebecca Chambers, Simon Rowland-Jones and Sergey Fatkulin.
He has been actively freelancing in various ensembles in Singapore and overseas, including The Philharmonic Orchestra, Musician’s initiative, The Purple Symphony and The Sun Symphony in Vietnam.
He’s also the music director and Violist of the Alouette Ensemble, serving to supervise and plan the musical direction of the group based on the strengths of the players.
His interest of music led him to begin studying composition under Dr. Goh Toh Chai since 2019, in order to expand and refine his own musical expressions to reach new limits and challenge currently held ones too. His tendency to challenge works from other instruments and premiering works from living composers allows him to work with music with different national roots, resulting in a wider arsenal of expression.
